Janet Hails, Coordinator

Janet Hails

Janet Hails joined the Law Enforcement Innovation Center (LEIC) in June 2008. She came to LEIC from the Office of the Chancellor at UT, where she had been employed since 2005. While in the office of the chancellor, her duties included preparing appointment letters for new faculty, providing support to several search committees, preparing travel reimbursements, and other financial transactions using the IRIS System.

Prior to moving to Knoxville, Janet lived in Homewood, Alabama (near Birmingham). During her years in Alabama she worked at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) Medical Center, as secretary to the Director of Surgery and later as secretary to the Dean of the Department of Nutrition Sciences.   While her children were young, Janet left working full-time, but did have a part-time position as director of children’s music at a school and church in Birmingham. Upon returning to full-time employment in 1998, she became Assistant to the Director of Student Records at Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. Among her duties at Cumberland she maintained student files, scheduled classrooms, conference rooms, and student courtrooms (using a campus data base system), advised students regarding their schedules, prepared the law school portion of bar and post-graduate applications, certified students for graduation, and helped students resolve matters of concern regarding their record or grades. She also assisted with course registration and semester grades entry.

Hails attended the University of Tennessee where she majored in Music (voice).
