Secured and Prepared Schools
This professional development initiative is DHS certified and was established to help schools identify and adopt best practices in the area of school security and emergency preparedness. Using a broad, multi-hazards approach, the project addresses challenges ranging from school shootings to natural disasters to terrorist incidents. This joint effort is successful in training school authorities on methods by which to make their respective schools safer and more secure from the impacts of natural and fabricated disasters.
Training is delivered using a 3-tier model and includes:
Basic School Security and Preparedness Training
This level serves as a "train-the-trainer" course targeting both school staff and teachers. Representatives from various school systems across Tennessee may attend these training courses to better equip themselves to train their own school employees by offering similar workshops and best practice in-service programs.
