Coordinator II
Katie Powell joined the LEIC staff in January 2011 as a Safe Schools Training Coordinator. In this position, Powell coordinates a variety of training programs and statewide conferences offered to Tennessee schools. LEIC offers an assortment of training programs throughout the year based on prevention research and school safety initiatives recommended by the U.S. Department of Education. These programs are a partnership with the Tennessee Department of Education Safe Schools & Learning Support Center in its statewide initiative to ensure all of Tennessee's youth have a safe and disciplined learning environment.
Prior to joining the LEIC, Powell was an administrative intern from the University of Tennessee’s Municipal Technical Advisory Service. Prior to her work with MTAS, she was hired by the City of Spring Hill, TN to update the organization and design of the city’s FY 2010-11 budget and budget proposal. She was also chosen to participate in the MTAS City Management Internship program with the City of Sevierville, TN in the summer of 2009.
She graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and completed a master’s degree in Public Administration with a 4.0 GPA, both at the University of Tennessee. During her graduate studies, she worked as an executive assistant for BankEast in Knoxville, Tennessee.
