Mandy Johnson

Specialist

Since joining LEIC in 2005, Johnson has worked closely with law enforcement agencies across the country delivering several different law enforcement training programs and technical assistance initiatives. Currently, her primary responsibility includes the coordination and delivery of the National DNA Training Initiative, a 16-hour basic forensic course designed to increase officer awareness of DNA science capabilities.

Johnson joined the LEIC from the Knoxville Police Department (KPD), where she served as a training specialist. While at KPD, she worked closely with the Crime Prevention, Safety Education, and School Resource Officer Units, coordinating the department’s many youth initiatives. Prior to her tenure at KPD, Johnson worked in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) in Washington, DC. As a grant program specialist, she administered several federal funding initiatives to help local law enforcement agencies implement community policing and other innovative crime prevention strategies and technologies.

Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology from East Tennessee State University, a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Indiana University, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
